At The University of Iowa Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, we are continually pushing the envelope to uncover the mechanisms of fundamental biological processes and the molecular bases of critical health problems.
Research and development have long been a central part of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology's efforts. We have strong programs in biochemistry, molecular, cellular, developmental, computational and structural biology, and model system genetics. The work produced in these areas has led to new insights and our highly motivated faculty and trainees continue to make strides in these endeavors.
Areas of Focus
Our investigators' experimental approaches are exceptionally broad, ranging from genetic engineering to live cell imaging to the study of molecules by X-ray crystallography, and likewise makes use of a range of genetically-tractable model organisms including mice, yeast, and worms.
Recent Publications
Members of the department have established collaborative investigations and frequently publish their findings in journals, books, and other areas.. Read about their recent publications.
Ongoing faculty and researcher recruitment
The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology has a strong commitment toward building our research enterprise, with ongoing recruitment for faculty and researchers.
